Physical Comparison

Samsung Galaxy S8

At 5.47oz or 155 grams, this phone is lighter than its contender by a slight margin. With a dimension of 148.9mm*68.1mm*8mm, it is slightly on the bigger end of the mobile spectrum, but nothing new in this day and age of phablets. With Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protecting it, this flagship device does not shy away in the case of using the latest technology available. This phone is IP68 certified, i.e. dust and waterproof over 1.5 meters and 30 minutes. Meaning you can feel safe during slight splashes or rains, but of course underwater photography is still not recommended.

This 2016 device is weighed around 5.96oz or 169 grams, shade heavier than Samsung Galaxy S8, but it’s a Note series phone, meaning a smaller tablet rather than larger phone. With dimensions of 153.5mm*73.9mm *7.9mm, it is bigger by a few centimeters in length and breadth but.1mm thinner. It has a similar IP68 certification. This is what makes this phone really stand out. A 5.8-inch super AMOLED capacitive touch screen which has a resolution of 1440*2960 pixels at a density of astounding 570 ppi(approx.) covers 83.6% of the front of this phone. This 83.6% is a great accomplishment in screen to body ratio. With 3D touch support for home button, this phone scores another plus.

There is a twist here though, its aspect ratio is not your usual 16:9, it’s 18.5:9 for reasons yet unknown.

It has a super AMOLED capacitive touch screen panel of 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 * 2560 pixels at a respectable 515 ppi (approx.) density. The screen to body ratio is 79%.

Hardware

It comes with Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset. The processor used is an octa core one with 4 of the cores clocked at 2.35 GHz and the other 4 at 1.9 GHz. This paired with Adreno 540 GPU promises an impeccable performance. What’s more, this device offers 64GB of Internal Storage with an option to expand upto 256GB via micro SD card. 4GB of RAM though slightly less than a few of the vendors, is always respectable.

This handset comes with a Quad core Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 processor which is weaker than S8 (but not by much for an average user), but can handle normal task such as productivity apps, multitasking, browsing etc. with ease. It consists of four cores, two of them clocked at 2.15 GHz and the other two at 1.6 GHz. This is coupled with Adreno 530 for its Graphic processing needs to give a satisfactory performance. Furthermore, the Note 7 has exactly similar offerings as S8 in memory department with 64 GB and 4 GB configuration for internal memory and RAM, there is nothing new here.

Camera

Both the phones use exactly the same back (primary) camera lens with 12MP, f/1.7, 26mm. Features like phase detection, autofocus, OIS and LED flash are common necessities at this price point. It is a decent camera that comes with 1/2.5 inch sensor size with 1.4 micrometer pixel sizes. The lens is capable of simultaneous 4K video and 9MP image recording. Other features include face/smile detection, auto HDR and panorama make the camera feture become unique and attractive. And you’re also allowed to record your own videos with video of 2160p @ 30fps and of 1080p @ 60fps.
